Care Guide
Planting. Ranunculus need to be planted in free draining soil enriched with organic matter - the specifics of this will depend on whether you're planting your Ranunculus in a pot or in a garden bed. If planting into a garden bed you can enrich the soil with things such as manure, blood and bone, or organic compost. When planting into a pot, ensure you use a good quality potting mix and make sure there is adequate drainage in your chosen pot. Feed your Ranunculus regularly using a controlled-release fertiliser - when the plant begins to bloom, use a soluble fertiliser designed specifically for flowering plants.
Environment. Ranunculus prefer cold to temperate climates - in order for their corms to grow they actually require a cold winter. Despite thriving in the cold, Ranunculus require a great deal of light to flourish. For the best flowering results this plant needs to be planted in a bright, partially shaded position or in full sun. To prevent the foliage burning, protect from harsh afternoon sun.
Watering. While your Ranunculus is growing, water regularly but ensure that the soil is moist and not wet. If the corms sit in water they run the risk of rotting. During the warmer weather or any dry spells begin watering more generously.
